Our Philosophy

Mission Statement. Kincumber Preschool Kindergarten prides itself on it’s inclusivity, belonging and working together with all children, families, and the wider community. Our service aims to establish a culturally safe environment in which diverse and unique histories, cultures, languages, and traditions of all people in our community are respected and valued. Our service management, educators, children, and families critically reflect on the statement of philosophy individually and together, to ensure the philosophy aligns with the service’s current purpose, priorities, and approach to practise.

Indigenous Culture and People. Our service acknowledges and values the rich history of our First Nations People, and their culture and connections to the land on which we work and learn. We believe in establishing a culturally safe environment in which diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families are respected, celebrated and valued.

Families and Community. We believe our community, including families, serves as a valuable resource in the education and wellbeing of all our children. We give families opportunities to make connections, participate and contribute and share ideas. We promote inclusive relationships that build trust and authenticity, regardless of gender, ability, age, religion, and cultural background. We do this by respecting, supporting and honouring collaborations between educators, children, their families, and partnerships within the wider community. Our service maintains a network with outside agencies to provide a multidisciplinary approach to meeting the needs of children and families.

Children and Child Safe Environment. We believe all children in our care have the right to feel safe, supported and celebrated. All children are viewed as successful, competent, and capable learners who are given opportunities to construct their own understandings, contribute to the learning of others and participate in decisions that affect them. Each child is respected without discrimination or bias and has a voice. We ensure child safety, health and wellbeing are embedded in service leadership, governance, and culture.

Curriculum and Environment. We aim to provide an inclusive curriculum that reflects children’s strengths, interests, and abilities regardless of their gender, cultural background, age, religion, or ability. We will provide every child with experiences that allow selfdiscovery, exploration, and fun, emerging from their interests. Our service values contributions from families and children and use these as the foundation of our educational program. We support all our children to become environmentally responsible which is embedded in practice, programs, and policies.

Educators. We believe our educators are caring, nurturing and approachable. Our educators are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and awareness to keep children safe through ongoing education and look to embed child safety in the attitudes, behaviours, and practices of everyone working in the organisation. As educators we are committed to continuous learning, collaboration with each other and critical reflection, through extending our professional knowledge of children, families, and our wider community.
